6 Things to Do on a Webster County Snow Day
When the snow is falling in Webster County, it can seem like a magical place where the things you do aren’t quite like anywhere else in the world. Here is a list of great things to do when it’s snowy or cold in Webster County during winter, with options where you can embrace the cold and snow or escape it, depending on your preference!
1. Go Sledding or Tubing
Webster County residents break out the sleds, and head to the hills at Cowen’s Municipal Building and to McCutcheon Street (when the city closes it), next to the Webster-Addison Public Library. If you’re brave enough to venture outdoors, grab a sled and head to one of the many beloved sledding hills in Webster County for guaranteed high-speed fun.
2. Find a Back Road
When it snows and sticks, winding roads become a frosty white winter wonderland. Some back roads are not maintained for winter travel, but these unplowed and untreated roads offer residents and travelers lots of winter fun, including snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
3. Snap Some Photos
Layer up with your camera in tow and capture the various scenes around Webster County. From scenic views of the Elk River or the icicles along Route 15/20 to city scenes, like Webster Springs or Cowen look as stunning as ever. Even if you only take pictures with your cell phone, the trip alone is worth it. Pictured above is Bill and Sharron Riddle's Farm, located on Rt. 82, 8 miles from Cowen in Webster County. 4. Learn About Your Webster Roots
One great way to escape the cold and snow in Webster County is to visit the Genealogy Room at the Webster-Addison Public Library. With wonderful collections, as well as the perfect way to warm-up for a few hours, visiting this genealogy room is a great way to spend a snow day. The genealogy room is dedicated to Webster County ancestry, family history and genealogy birth records, marriage records, death records, census records, family history, and military records.
5. Go Play in the Snow
You can easily go sledding in Webster County when it snows, but other ideas are to make a snowman have a substantial snowball fight, build a snow fort, or at the very least, you can build an ice wall to keep you safe from snowballs!
6. Go Read a Book
If you’re looking for somewhere a little quieter, why not curl up with a good book at one of the county’s libraries?
