Opening Day at the Cookhouse
The wait is over! The beloved Cookhouse at Holly River State Park opens for the season on Friday, April 3, 2026! The restaurant will be open on the weekends(Friday-Sunday, 8 AM- 8 PM) until Memorial Day to which it will then be open 7 days a week.
Camden on Gauley Community Easter Egg Hunt
Camden on Gauley is hosting a Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4th, 2026 at 3:00 PM!
Age groups:
Birth to 3 years old
4 to 6 years old
7 to 11 years old
Scavenger Hunt:
12 to 15 years old
Town of Cowen Spring Clean-up
The Town of Cowen’s Spring Cleanup is happening April 11th from 9 AM–3 PM — and this year, they are accepting metal items too!
It’s the perfect time to clean out, declutter, and help keep our community looking its best. We’d love to see everyone come out and take part!
Please note:
•You must live inside city limits, please bring your ID or proof of address.
• You will be responsible for unloading your own items.
• Appliances are accepted as metal.
• We cannot accept: electronics, construction materials, furniture, or tires.
Help us spread the word and make a difference in the Town of Cowen.
Wildwater Weekend
Webster County’s Wildwater Weekend is returning April 11th, 2026!
Race Course:
The normal race course starts at the CR 15/3 bridge in Curtin and finishes at Bakers Island in downtown Webster Springs, Approximately 5 miles in length. American Whitewater’s description of this river section (shown below) includes approximately 6.6 miles from Bergoo to Curtin:

11.6 miles
Average Gradient 30 fpm
From Bergoo to the CR 15/3 Bridge that goes to Curtin the rapids are mostly of the cobble bar variety.
***(RACE COURSE SECTION) From this bridge downstream the rapid makers are mostly small ledges with the biggest one known as Parcoal Falls or the PX. Paddlers unfamiliar with this rapid should scout river right before or sneak far left.
Organizers reserve the right to change river sections based on water levels and conditions at the time of the race.

The Annual Webster County Woodchopping Festival Pageants are on April 25-26th, 2026.

61st Annual Woodchopping Festival
The largest run lumberjack competition in North America continues Memorial Day Weekend in Webster County! This is a can’t miss event as we celebrate local and world renowned woodchopping talent. More information to come!
Bergoo Bash
The largest Fundraiser of the year for the Webster Springs Volunteer Fire Department is happening Saturday, September 5, 2026 in Bergoo! Miles of ATV/UTV trail riding through the mountains of Webster County for a poker run. The fun continues with food trucks, live music, and more!
Holly River State Park Festival
A celebration of tradition and community with a car show, local crafters, a 5k(Holly River Hustle), live music, games and more! Happening Labor Day Weekend- More information to come.
Webster County Fair
The oldest county fair in West Virginia returns to the historic Camp Caesar on Wednesday September 9th! Live music, 4H exhibits and more every single day! More information to come
Community Easter Egg Hunt
Hosted by Catholic Charities and the Haven Coalition, there will be a Community Easter Egg Hunt on Baker’s Island Sunday, March 29th, 2026 at 1:30 PM!
This is open to all kids 15 years old or younger. Those older than 15 years of age are welcome to come hide eggs that morning at 11:00 AM.
Prizes will be given to all children.

Webster County Woodchoppers Elimination Dinner
The Annual Woodchoppers Elimination Dinner will be Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the Webster Springs City Building!
First prize: $1,000
2nd, 3rd & 4th prize: $100.00 each

Hacker Valley Chili Cook-Off
The Northern Webster County Improvement Council is hosting their annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday March 14th, 2026 at the Hacker Valley Elementary School! Those who are competing need to be set up and ready at 10:00 AM. The judging will take place and then will be open to the public at Noon.
As usual they are also having a bake sale! Come out and taste some wonderful chilis and grab a baked goodie! Cindy plans on making some tea rings!
$10 entry fee for chili cooks
$5 to stop in at Noon and sample all the chilis!

Join us for another book reading event at the Woodchopping and Timber Heritage Museum! We are kicking off the 2026 year with Glorya Bolden as she joins us(via Zoom) to read us two of her children's books "Auzzie, The GrAngel with Super Powers" and "Who Do You Say You Are?”.
Weather permitting, we will have a in person listening party. For those who can't make it in person, we will also provide a zoom link!

The Cowen Mountain Bike Committee will be having a mountain bike park committee meeting Thursday January 8th from 6-8 pm at the Cowen Library
Webster County fair
The Annual Webster County Fair will be September 3-6, 2025 at Camp Caesar! Admission is only $10 per day for access to all entertainment. 4-H exhibits will be on display and featuring livestock, vegetables, flowers, canned goods, antiques, art, crafts, and photography. A hot dog eating contest, butterfly release, MedVac demonstration, and fireworks are among the many exciting offerings at this years fair as well as the 3rd Annual Demolition Derby on Saturday evening! The Red Cross and the Northern Webster County Improvement Council are hosting another blood drive on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025 from 12:00 OM to 5:00 PM! It will be held at Holly River State Park at the Stanley Judd Anderson Center Activity Room.

Holly River State Park will be hosting their 33rd Annual Holly River State Park Festival on Saturday, August 30- Sunday, August 31, 2025. A tradition of fun and heritage that has been going on for decades.
