Leaf Peepers Guide to Extraordinary Views in Webster County
Like clockwork, the brutal, muggy heat of August is cut like a knife -- the fever has broken and mornings are filled with the cool, crisp air of autumn. Slowly at first, and then all at once, hues of green are soon replaced with swaths of yellow, red and orange! For years, visitors from across the globe have trekked to West Virginia to witness the beauty as it unfolds. The opportunity to experience fall in West Virginia is truly unparalleled to any other region, and Webster County is no exception. Below are our top eight vantage points in the area that offer you the best views of Webster:
On Route 20 between Buckhannon & Webster Springs, there are several wide spots on the road to pull over and take in the sights. One particular place would be at the top of Hodam Mountain, where the Hodam Inn had once been located.
Pickens Road has some great views that overlook the Balli Farm and give a good sight over the valley.
State Route 15 between Webster Springs & Valley Head (Point Mountain Road) has several nice viewing spots. There is a good pull off spot with a clear view at Bonner Ridge. Another great scenic overlook is located as you come down the mountain into Webster Springs, overlooking the Curtin sawmill.

Several roads in the Mon National Forest offer great views. We suggest FS 101, FS 81 & FS 82. You’ll be right in the middle of over 65,000 acres of national forest – talk about prime territory.
Bishop Knob. For the adventurous, there is a fire tower where one can climb several flights of stairs to get a great view. Though the lookout platform is inaccessible, one can climb just high enough to get the full view!
The Highland Scenic Highway, while not located in Webster County, is an easy route to add onto your Webster County Fall Foliage Tour. With one of the best views in the state for fall leaf peeping, we couldn’t leave it off the list!
Route 9 or Erbacon Road is another great opportunity to take in some spectacular views of the mountain state in the fall.
