Local Holiday Treasures

The winter season is well upon us which means one thing is certain, holiday shopping.  While you may feel compelled to spend your days trekking to the mall or surfing the internet while the hours fly by, consider an alternative from your yearly shopping habits by shopping locally! This year, we’ve assembled a list of a few of our favorite places in Webster County that are sure to have a little something for everyone on your holiday shopping list:

For The Outdoorsman:
If you have a mountain man/woman in the family or a seasoned hunter in the wolf pack, look no further! Trapper’s Den Sporting Goods offers enough hunting and fishing clothing and supplies, camping equipment and boating accessories to hit the wilderness fully prepared for the elements; while Pap’s Sports Shop carries a full range of Parker Bows for the hunter in need of a new tool. In addition, secondhand retailers like Hillbilly Gun & Pawn can offer a varied selection of sporting rifles and guns at a reduced rate.

For The Arts Collector:
Webster County is home to a fairly lengthy “short list” of craftsmen, artists, and creatives, and that’s a plus for you, or should we say… the lucky folks on your shopping list. Often times, the best gifts are those that are not only a surprise but also offer a unique and one of a kind twist to gift-giving. The Addison Visitor Center houses all kinds of local artisans and crafters wares for sale. Another great one-stop-shop is The Olde Lower Store in Webster Springs as well as Country Charm in Cowen, where local entrepreneurs can display their craft items and sundries. Looking for something a little more? Check out some of our local artist’s galleries:

For “Mr. Fix-It”:
For the man who finds comfort in slowly collecting a menagerie of hand tools, drills, buzz saws, you name it… take it from the professionals at your local hardware store to know the difference between a tack hammer and a claw hammer. Some of our go to’s are Casey’s Hometown Hardware & Lumber, Country Hardware, and Ace!
